Administrative Assistant

Summit Engineering, Inc. is looking for a self-motivated, energetic individual to join our office. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable Front Desk Administrative Assistant who is interested in joining one of the most successful consulting engineering firms in Northern California.

This position will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to visitors, callers and staff. Typical responsibilities include routing phone calls, greeting guests, making travel arrangements, handling incoming and outgoing mail, and purchasing office and kitchen supplies. The Front Desk Administrative Assistant also coordinates on-site and/or off-site meeting requests, shops for and sets up for weekly in-house staff breakfasts, and keeps the kitchen, supply room, and conference areas clean and organized. He/she tracks work orders, maintains Intranet entries to reflect staff requests for time off, assists with miscellaneous administrative tasks or projects, and runs errands as needed. In addition, this individual performs general and specific administrative functions for the office including processing of technical Word documents and maintaining the organization of multiple electronic project files and processes.

The ideal candidate for this position has the ability to focus on the details as well as see the big picture while working on an assignment. They are flexible thinkers, curious and eager to learn, and have a “can-do” attitude while performing all aspects of the job from prioritizing work flow, to maintaining client database information, creating power points, filing and reception, organizing office events, and working on complex Word documents. Applicants must have previous experience providing outstanding customer service. He/she must also have strong computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and familiarity with office equipment including optical scanners, copiers and printers. This individual must possess strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail and excellent phone etiquette, maintaining professionalism at all times.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in an administrative/office environment; previous administrative experience in engineering or construction is highly desirable.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word including the ability to format documents.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Adobe Acrobat.  Familiarity with InDesign, Newforma, and Photoshop helpful.
  • Accurate typing speed 65+ wpm.
  • Competent in use of all office equipment including scanners, copiers and printers; perform troubleshooting on all office equipment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-pace environment and able to learn new programs quickly.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Strong proofreading, spelling and grammar skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and with all levels of staff and management
  • Independent problem solving.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Electrical Engineering - Project Engineer

Summit Engineering, Inc. is looking for talented electrical and lighting design engineers. Various levels of experience will be considered.

  • Collaborate with architects and clients on the design of the lighting and power distribution aspects of building projects such as wineries, commercial, health care, and high end residential.
  • Create design and specifications of the following (but not limited to) systems: power distribution, emergency power systems, alternate power energy systems (PV, battery storage), lighting design, lighting controls, and low voltage signal systems (telecom/AV/security systems/fire alarm). 
  • Coordination with power and telecom utility companies.
  • Prepare electrical construction documents and technical specifications.
  • Perform construction phase assistance including site visits and field reports. Respond to requests for information (RFI’s) and review equipment submittals and shop drawings.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Experienced in the design of electrical and lighting systems in the building types and market sectors similar to those we serve.
  • Understanding of design components such as electrical distribution diagrams, short circuit, electrical room layouts, voltage drop calculates, lighting fixture design/layout, fixture schedules, control diagrams, and local and state building energy codes.
  • Proficiency with lighting design software programs (AGI, Visual or similar), AutoCAD and REVIT, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of building and electrical codes including California Title 24 Energy Standards.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at any given time, train and mentor staff, and act as a firm representative to our clients.
  • B.S. Degree in Architectural or Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power distribution, lighting design and electrical building systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or FE with ability to pursue PE.

Planning & Permitting - Senior Planner

The Senior Planner is an integral member of the project team responsible for the management, preparation, submittal and facilitation functions of various permits including:

  • Develop permitting strategy
  • Maintain and develop client relationships
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff
  • Prepare project descriptions, solicit proposals, and collect reports and studies in support of applications.
  • Work with various governmental agencies to facilitate plan review and approvals.
  • Assist internal and/or external team members with interpretation of applicable codes, regulations, and standards.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Exhibit an understanding of the California Environmental Quality Act as it relates to discretionary permits.
  • Understand code requirements and interpret their applicability.
  • Have a minimum of five years’ experience.
  • Be AICP certified.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have strong organizational, analysis and problem-solving skills.

The Job
This position involves performing engineering calculations and design using technical skills, experience and engineering judgment to transform concept designs into Construction Drawings and Technical Specifications. You will prepare plans and details in AutoCAD or Revit for incorporation into the Construction Drawings and Technical Specifications. You will perform analysis using computer software and verify with supporting calculations. You will also work collaboratively on projects with your colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Job Requirements

  • Beginning to intermediate skill with REVIT software.
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in Structural and E.I.T. Certification highly preferred.
  • Experience with wood design desired.
  • Ability and drive to pursue and obtain a California P.E. license.
  • Competency in working with at least one other structural software program such as RAM, STAAD, ETAB, or RISA.
  • Ability to prepare AutoCAD structural plans and details with minimal supervision.
  • Experience on a construction site, either through internship or work experience, highly preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in a similar role highly preferred.
  • Ability to resolve issues and complete work per deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to work well on a project team.
